Inspiration to start a Beauty, Fashion and Style Blog
I’ve always had a strong physical pull to more of the creative arts. For me, it is the struggle between heavily using the left side of my brain in an engineering field while nurturing the right side of my brain.
Starting The Werk! Place was the solution to keep my creative juices flowing and active. It’s an avenue that I use to express myself through my clothes. I, also, have an interest in exploring opportunities in Fashion Marketing and what better way to get experience than with a personal style blog.
How would you like your blog to impact the lives of women?
Aside from just giving outfit inspiration, I want to show women that you can be sexy and confident in whatever you are wearing. It’s less about the clothes and more about the person wearing the clothes.
What is beauty to you?Everyone has something unexplainably beautiful about them.
Beauty to me is like that first love where you really can’t explain it, you just know that it feels right and it feels good. Beauty is different for different people and I would love for us to all embrace the beauty that is within us.

How much of an importance is looking and staying beautiful both inside and out is to you?
It’s so very important to embrace your inner beauty first! Outer beauty will get you to the door but inner beauty will take you through it, down the hall, into the kitchen, a seat at the table, up the stairs, and wherever you want to go. I firmly believe in the quote “Your body is a werk of art, dress to be on display."
If people are going to have to look at you and see you, you may as well give them something to look at!
How would you describe your personal style?
My personal style has evolved over the years with a mixture of Midwest and East Coast influence. I would say I am where high-end meets low end and a little in between.
As a self-proclaimed mix master, I focus on combining patterns, colors and various textures. My style can range from mixed print maven to classic funk cutie at the drop of a credit card on black Friday.
You are an engineer by trade, how difficult is to for you as female in a male-dominated field?
My biggest struggle in this field as a female is speaking up and talking about my accomplishments. Being a hard worker doesn’t cut it on its own. You have to work hard, document your successes and talk to the right people about them. It’s difficult as a woman not to come off as too abrasive or extreme because we aren’t raised to have super-alpha personalities.

How does your career influence your choice in clothing selections?
I’m definitely aware of the choices that I make for the office versus on my personal free time. I don’t want to be too distracting. I stray away from exposing too much skin. I want people to see my work ethic, talent and skills before they notice my outfit at work. Outside of work, I want them to notice my outfit first!
